From Derbyshire in the UK, bass player and producer André M has been creating quite a stir amongst lovers of funk and instrumental R&B who have described his most recent brand of funky Hammond grooves as Booker T And The MGs partying with Larry Graham at Lalo Schifrin’s house.
In a world saturated by media-driven, squeaky clean production and autotuned blandness, André is taking his listeners back to a time when capturing a great music performance on record was king.
As a self-releasing producer, his first three albums and debut 45 were released on the Set 2 Records label while his second and third 45s were released on Crocodile Records and Spinout Nuggets respectively. His tracks have been played everywhere from BBC 6 Music to the Modcast Summer Boat party and always to a great reception.
For André, releasing his funk-infused Hammond grooves is the realisation of a long-held dream of creating his own music in this style since he discovered and fell in love with Stax, R&B and funk in the mid-1980s. He has produced all of the material himself and has been in the fortunate position of being able to invite some of his favourite musicians to play alongside him his records.
André M is part of a small but growing shift back to what can only be described as ‘real’ music. It is his intention to develop from the springboard of this first releases a musician-friendly record label which will allow him to continue producing and releasing great quality music by him and other artists for many years to come.
Although André’s first instrument is electric bass he’s been spending the last year or so trying his hand at Hammond Organ. You can check out his progress on his Instragam channel where he posts his daily splurges.

Reviews and quotes:
“Keeping with the Mod theme, Crocodile Records‘ latest transmission is André M’s cool-struttin’ “Kenzy’s Choice”. It’s a pleasingly concise Hammond-led instrumental which stomps along like a bunch of shady gangsters on their way to smash up an East End pub. Anyone who has ever happily tapped their loafers to Kent’s tremendous Mod Jazz series of LPs should seek it out immediately!” – Not Unloved Blog
“The cover says, “Funk Filled Hammond R&B” – and it’s not wrong. This is a splendid Hammond fuelled 12-song stomper of an album in the vein of The James Taylor Quartet’s ‘Mission Impossible’ and ‘Money Spyder’ albums, and definitely right up my street.” – Paul Hooper-Keeley Modernist Blog Spot
